The History of CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy ( CST ) was developed by Dr. John Upledger Osteopathic Physician.

In 1985 he founded The Upledger Institute in Palm Beach Florida to educate healthcare practitioners and the public about the benefits of CST.

Today the Upledger Institute educates practitioners all over the world under their satellite programmes.

How Can CST Help Me

Craniosacral Therapy is beneficial to a wide range of conditions, including and not limited to:

Headaches and migraines

Head and brain injury

Facial and mouth trauma

Neck, back and hip pain

Central nervous system (CNS) disorders

Autonomic nervous system (ANS) disorders

We refer to the craniosacral system which is the membranous sac which surrounds and protects the central nervous system CNS (brain and spinal cord) the bones of the cranium and sacrum, which are connected to these membranes, the fascia which radiates out from the membranes to all parts of the body and the cerebral spinal fluid produced in the centre of the brain, that fills the membranous sac.

All these structures are set in a gentle rhythmic motion by the normal movement of cerebral spinal fluid as it is produced in the brain and moves throughout the brain and spinal canal.

The free flow of CSF in the CNS is essential for optimal health.

Craniosacral therapy is beneficial to a wide range of conditions.

Because the craniosacral system plays the vital role of maintaining the environment in which the central nervous system functions, a wide variety of bodily functions can be assisted to a more balanced state.

When the body is under stress our autonomic nervous system can become hypertonic and our bodies becomes self-destructive and unable to lower sympathetic tone.

Craniosacral therapy assists the body to lower sympathetic tone and allows the nervous system to rest and rejuvenate. So, a wide variety of issues can be addressed and improved.

Craniosacral therapy facilitates and works with the body’s self-correcting mechanisms and wisdom.

The client may feel relief from symptoms after one session or may require a series of sessions to assist their whole body/mind/spirit recover.

People’s response to craniosacral therapy can vary even when the same condition presents itself. We work with each individual on a case by case basis.
